Monopole Tower

The Monopole Tower is a type of telecommunication tower designed for limited spaces, featuring a single base structure. Commonly used for mobile communication networks and local or private wireless services, this tower is freestanding and does not require guy wires. It is typically cylindrical or multi-sided in design, with the sides welded together in multi-sided versions. Monopole towers are often installed on rooftops or high-rise buildings and are suitable for supporting lightweight equipment only.
Advantages of monopole towers include ease of installation, lower implementation costs, and significantly smaller space requirements compared to other types of telecommunication towers.
Monopole towers come in various designs, cross-section shapes, and heights. They can be manufactured with multi-sided, circular, and other cross-sectional shapes to suit specific requirements.

Features of Monopole Towers

Monopole towers are single-pole structures, with the installation method involving the upper section being mounted onto the lower section. Each of these components, referred to as “sections” in technical terms, typically measures up to six meters in height.
Regarding assembly, monopole towers can either be telescopic (flanged) or connected using bolts and nuts. Monopoles with a multi-sided design and heights ranging from 18 to 36 meters are manufactured in compliance with MCI standards and as single-pole structures.
The body of these towers is designed and produced using 6-meter flanged sections, either made from bent steel sheets or spiral pipes (circular cross-section), or with a 12-sided cross-section. The load-bearing capacity of multi-sided monopole towers is limited and includes features such as:

  • Ladders and ladder guards for ease of climbing and workplace safety.
  • Step bolts for easier installation of antennas and radios.

Applications of Monopole Towers

Monopole towers are utilized for various purposes, including as traffic light poles, lighting towers, guide sign poles, stadium towers, telecommunication towers, flag poles, and poles for CCTV cameras, traffic monitoring cameras, and speed dome cameras. These towers are also commonly used for installing telecommunication antennas (such as Xpole, Vpole, and WLL mobile systems) and wireless antennas.
Advantages of monopole towers include minimal space usage, ease of installation, and simplicity in construction. Disadvantages include the need for crane-assisted installation, higher vibration compared to other towers, limited load capacity, and gradual obsolescence as per Iranian telecommunications standards.
